Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Our Time and Revelation

“And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” (1 Sam. 3:1)

Yep. This pretty much sums up the time we’re living in America. “What?” You protest. Well, I suppose I’m mistaken if you’re thinking of all the ‘spiritual’ activities going on in every community. I suppose there were many in Samuel’s time that were attending services to Baal; carving their idols; sacrificing their animals and children (now that’s some serious religion; passing your first born through a fire.) Molech? Oh heck! We here in America sacrifice our first, second…tenth, if that’s the unwanted one to the fire; that is, during cremation. You tell yourself, “No worries; they weren’t viable.”

Well, if you’re thinking this, check the verse again. It says no widespread revelation, which means divine communication. Oh, I hear a lot of yammering from pulpits; many apostate, some lukewarm; some lively and entertaining (good music, dancing in the aisles), but where’s the divine communication?

Where are the cries of repentance? Where are God’s people rising up within their communities? Where are the sons and daughters prophesying; old men dreaming dreams; and young men seeing visions?

I’m not saying these things should be happening today, but because they’re not, can’t you see how what was true in Samuel’s day is true today for us? There is no widespread revelation; only our sin; our pride and arrogance; murder, adultery, theft and hatred.

Yep. It’s a revelation all right but hardly divine.
