Poetry, Darts and Musings

Over the years, David would spend his time in Colorado in the basement of his Highlands Ranch townhouse. As he considered the things of God, his career, and what he observed around him in life, he would express his thoughts in poetry. Brian Lyle Bemisdarfer, under a fee-for-service agreement, created Millpond Ink’s original logos. That logos is no longer seen on the website. However, you can see some forms of the original logos here. David requested Brian to make the variations in form that you see to your left to reflect his contemplation of poetry. David envisaged the creation of poetry – which is soulfully personal – as looking through a prism. In this case, David is looking through the ripples of the pond water as the prism through which he sees himself on the other side as he considers the great things of God, his career and life.

David hopes that you will enjoy his poetry. Though you may agree or disagree with the premise (or even the form of his writing) of his poems, that’s okay. Within the prism of humanity, life is a broken, fractured presentation of myriad thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Ah, the Millpond Darts! Pithy thoughts that sprang up in David’s mind when he read the Bible – a daily devotional such as C.H. Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening, or Octavius Winslow’s Morning Thoughts and many other (mainly Puritan) authors. Some of his thoughts came after hearing a sermon. Pastor Rick Vasquez, of Skyview Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colorado, among those whom God contributed a dart or two. Again, David wrote the majority of his ‘Darts,’ as he wrote his poetry – when he resided in Colorado. However, in the past year, he again started posting his thoughts. In this presentation of the original logos to your right, David asked Brian to show one of the darts headed for dead center of the pool, while another landed well off center. That is life! That is the Christian’s walk! What we humanly believe is true one day, God reveals off the mark the very next. There are myriad reasons why that is true, but when you step up to throw out a thought or two, remember that the center of the pool a Christian shoots for is the rightly divided Word of God; not what seems right unto men.

Unlike David’s Millpond Darts, his Musings are a little more engaging in meditation and additional research. Is he ‘fishing’ for something more? Yes, hence the contemplative fisherman sitting with his cane pole. Again, his musings were primarily written in Colorado, before he headed east after the death of his wife, Nancy. They were married forty-three years. Yes, since 2008 he wrote his poetry, darts, and musings which occasionally centered around his marriage and what he experienced. Looking back, David will tell you that the Lord God used what he went through in his church life, career, and marriage as instructional, in experience and future application. Although difficult, whatever we experience in life and its outcome is purposeful. Whatever afflictions we cause others or suffer, he is finding them useful today. The point is, whatever we face in life, God intends for our good, and to his glory!
