Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Testing Through the Seasons

If a man was ever truly humbled before God, his life since his humiliation and recovery would be marked by change; inward first, then outward as his heart was cleansed and the Holy Spirit took up residence. This change, and the inward testimony of the Holy Spirit’s presence, would continue; even though the seasons of one’s life brought upon him various trials and circumstances.

We would like to think our lives would remain forever summer; warm of heart and joyous, such are the external gifts of God and blessings indeed! But we also know of coming falls and winters; when coldness and darkness beset us. Our temptation to find warmth in our bosom sins is great, and though we may slip from time to time during a flurry of trials or a blizzard of accusations, there is that Light in the distance that bids us to come home. It is there our renewed faith, through our confessional washings, that our hearths are kindled and lit; filling our hearts anew with His precious presence and carrying us into spring.

Such is how the elect look back and test their Spirit. From that they know that Christ will carry the day through all seasons!
