Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Before and After

Again I’ll say, when Jesus told the rich young man to go and sell everything, He wasn’t advocating a salvation of works! If the man had done so, it wouldn’t have drawn him one step closer to heaven.

However, if the young man had realized the lesson Jesus was teaching His disciples by instructing him to sell all, the young man was possibly one step closer to kneeling at the cross in gratefulness and thanksgiving. In this regard, the young man would have been as the jailer who released Paul and Silas. Realizing the grace of God, they would have done the very thing asked but with gladness. The young man would have sold all even as the jailer let Paul and Silas go free, despite the personal implications and cost. Such is the worthiness of owning Christ; securing the pearl of great price.
