Millpond Ink Musing – From Eternity

Have you ever stopped to think that nowhere in Scripture does it say that Christ is at the right hand of the Father and is actively interceding to save an unknown and unrepentant sinner? That is happening no more in heaven today than it was on earth yesterday when Jesus told His disciples that He did not pray for the world, but He prayed only for those Whom God had given to Him. (John 17:9) Thus, even as Jesus was the oblation (offering, sin sacrifice) for the effectually called, He is Today equally the intercessor and for those only.

What do I make of this? I make of it that time, as we know it, is nothing more than the consummation of man’s ultimate end in history as it was, is and will be unfolded from eternity in accordance with the counsel of His own will and good pleasure. Such eternal decrees were determined and names written before the earth was made; accordingly revealed in time. Such was His love shown before our acceptance, that it is written, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8) This made Christ’s offering an act that He finished on earth as of a given point in time; yes, but not only while we were yet sinners but before we were born.

What will some say who read this post? Some will seize upon it to reject Christ and persist in their sin; saying that God must not have chosen them. They will believe that over and above hearing what Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ (Mat. 11:28) For those who labor and are heavy laden, they aren’t as quick to seize upon this post as an excuse about why not to believe, but rather, they’ll seize upon it with joy. Why? They have been ever searching for Someone to love them and a reason to believe. And to find and to know that it is God Himself who loves them by name, and that, from eternity? They will most certainly come.
