And Thus He Rose

It’s hard to imagine what it was like that night,
kneeling, praying, asking God if it be His will
to turn aside the coming tide of scorn… ridicule… death.

No doubt his humanity pleaded for relief,
though His divinity knew that what would happen –
was needed for the redemption of men.

Men, who no more knew the reality of what they face,
their day of reckoning coming… the Devil’s laughter unheard,
his invitation to hell delivered to Adam, ever beckoning still.

Thrice Christ asked his disciples to remain awake,
thrice they fell asleep, and then He knew the Father’s answer.
They could not remain awake, and thus, He rose to greet His captors.
