Unsurprising

Now that I have completed recording the first five sermons Pastor Spurgeon preached to his congregation, I am not surprised his focus was on love. Why? His focus was on Jesus, Love incarnate, sent and born of the Love of God, Jehovah God, who is Love.

Then again, if you want to know the one Book of the Bible – yes, the go-to Book for fellowship and communion with Christ – the Song of Songs is that one Book. That claim by Pastor Spurgeon is born out in his focus on the Love of Christ, and our Love for Him.

Impression. Oh, to be given such a wonderful gift that our focus is on Christ, and Christ alone! Yes, Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached the Gospel. That is where Jehovah centered and maintained his heart, soul, mind, and might. From what I have read about his life, I would say that he placed second to King David in being a man after God’s own heart. The other day I heard a prominent minister disparage preachers who said that they preached the Gospel, and that alone. I understand the context in which he made the comment. Some do use that claim as an excuse to not address other issues that we are facing culturally from the pulpit. That being said, I wonder if there isn’t a single atom in the universe that we cannot address from the standpoint of the Gospel, and Christ’s love for us. Indeed, as the Apostle Paul, if we know of that one stone – that one Rock – on Mars Hill, we can address the whole.
