Including The Cricket

How do I know?
How does anyone know if they are in Christ?
Me? I listen for the crickets.
Yes, what do the crickets say?
Do I hear a soft or rigorous stridulation?
Or are the crickets silent at night?
I mean, if the Spirit came with tongues of fire…
appeared as a descending dove…
or a gentle breeze or gale, coming from who knows where,
why not the speaking of a cricket?
The rubbing of its legs, a righteous ritual?
A cricket’s stridulation speaks of life… love… location… calling…
Cannot the Spirit speak the same to me? You? Us?
I pray so, even as we listen for that ‘still small voice.’
Is not God in command of all creation?
What comes after the thunderous storm?
For in him all things were created…
Including the cricket.
