Loving Arms

I stand amidst a golden field
of flax and daffodils plenty.
I wonder if I’m here to stay,
as the night draws nigh
and I find my stance unsteady.

As darkness falls, I want to cry,
Oh, daylight stay!
I need the light!
I need to see that field!
It’s color, texture, brought me life,
I thought,
it’s golden hue was my charm,
warmed my heart.
I was wrong.

I could not leave.
For I was not the one who brought me to this field.
Where would I go?
I knew then that I was safe,
I could close my eyes… sleep…
For here amidst this golden field, this place of rest.
I slept in the loving arms of God.
