David’s wife, Nancy, died, August 17, 2016. The circumstances surrounding her death were difficult for all, family and friends. In the days and months that followed, David made decisions that many in his family did not understand.  Writing about his decision-making brought about his healing.

You might ask what brought me to Ashford.
I’d say the grace of God.
Some question my wisdom,
why I left Colorado…
children, grandchildren…
a few friends and church family there.
Still, I say it was the grace of God.
If he hadn’t strengthened me,
swept me up like Philip and carried me here,
I would have stayed in Colorado,
but I couldn’t… not when I saw my new home in Ashford,
I call it sanctuary.
I will likely die here,
not soon I pray,
not unless, of course, that’s God’s will for me,
but I needed a place of peace and rest,
new friends, new church… new life…
in light of all that happened…
