WHAT TO EXPECT:
Sermon Summary and Application
Jesus, thy love is sweeter than wine, which symbolizes the best the earth has to offer in satisfying and filling my need.
Unlike Wine
His love –
- Is taken without question,
- Is without cost,
- Is never too sweet that we do not desire more,
- Contains no imperfections,
- Never sours, and
- Produces no ill effects if enjoyed in excess.
Like Wine
His love –
- Provides healing, physically and spiritually,
- Gives strength, and
- Provides sacred exhilaration.
Jesus’ love comes in plurality and singularity:
Plurality
- His love is covenantal, made from eternity between Father and Son,
- Forbearing, personal, and forgiving,
- Accepting, guiding, providing, and instructing – sanctifying, and
- Sustaining, enduring, and chastening until the day we are called home and await our bodily resurrection.
Singular
- His love is manifest in a cluster, such as the Fruit of the Spirit,
- His love came in a basket, where all the events of His birth, life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and present Lordship were posited for eternity,
- His love came in a vessel, or flagon, where it is stored up for us, and
- Given to me, as a cup to be filled to overflowing.
With That Said
Oh, Lord, grant that I might drink deeper and longer, and as Your cup, filled to overflowing that the world around me may see You, and Your love, which is sweeter than wine! Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer and making the Song of Solomon My Song.
