This is the third of Pastor C.H. Spurgeon’s sermons preached on a communion Sunday.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Sermon Summary and Application
Song of Solomon 1:4
“… we will be glad and rejoice in thee; we will remember thy love more than wine:Â the upright love thee.”
In this third sermon on 1:4, Pastor Spurgeon preached it on a communion Sunday. No doubt this verse identifies with ‘do this in remembrance of me,’ and in the hope of His return for us as we go to the table in gladness and rejoicing.
We Prepare Before We Approach the Table
We bring holy memories of His love by preparing ourselves:
- Know it is God who draws us,
- When drawn, we ran to him, and
- the King brought us into the His chamber.
Moreover, we:
- Will (desire/choose) to be glad and rejoice when we go to the table, and
- Will (desire/choose) to remember His love is more than wine.
The Divine Subject to be Remembered
Seek to remember in your life:
- The fact of Christ’s love; that is, Christ came to earth,
- The character of Christ’s love, that is, Christ loved us from eternity,
- The deeds of Christ’s love; that is, Christ died for our sins, and
- The proof of Christ’s love; that is. look to your own life.
The Divine Result of His Love
We shall:
- Have respect for His people, and
- Grow upright.
