DNA Testing, Neanderthals, and Noah

Today, I participated in a survey for a company that performs DNA testing. I had mine tested a couple of years ago, so they contacted me to see if I’d opine on some of their upcoming reports. Specifically, they wanted to know the usefulness of some of them. Wouldn’t you know they chose me to survey a report that is meant to explain man’s Neanderthal variants. Great.

Needless to say, I told the woman who interviewed me using ‘Gotomeeting,’ that I was a Christian, and while; to… the best of my knowledge evolution was still theory, it might be appropriate if they caveat that particular point for those of us who believe such as I do in creationism. The way I look at it, let’s not throw the DNA baby out with the bathwater; except if it happens to consist of a pool of primordial ooze. Sorry, but creationism is still very much viable for those so guided by God’s grace, faith and yes, enlightened reason. Frankly, I took the same position with her that I do with what is taught in schools: present both. Anyway, I don’t think she really got into my pontificating, but neither did I change the ‘Gotomeeting’ confab into ‘Goto…. well, I think you get the point. I was nice, and if the survey wasn’t being recorded, I think she might have inquired further.

In fact, I kind of liked what they were presenting about what they called Neanderthal variants. No, of course, I poo-poo’ed the billion + year time cycles; which were given to present the timeline of man purportedly evolved from oil slick to a slick standing today on a street corner. I will tell you though I have no doubt there is some strange stuff in our DNA that we can’t account for scientifically. So, what do you expect a godless community to come up with to explain it?

Yes! The Neanderthal.

BUT!

You want to know how I account for those variants? Please see Genesis 6:4. As far as the flood wiping out mankind after what God observed as unacceptable levels of demonic strains in the gene pool, I wouldn’t doubt a very small portion of what today was called a DNA variant was introduced by one or all of the eight spared aboard the ark. Perhaps God willed just a small enough portion; not to alter our image in Him, but enough to confound a non-believing world that would contrive its own theories later.

Just something to think about.
