It has long been said when something is deemed impossible that what may happen would happen when ‘hell freezes over.’ This is essentially what the Lord is saying to Jeremiah and us. When men are able to measure the heavens and the foundations of the earth beneath, then God would cast off the seed of Israel. Really? When will that happen? O, what a wonderful assurance this is; given to us who are in Christ and of the seed of Israel! Sadly, for those who reject the Gospel and incline to their own understanding, hell will not freeze, and it will be a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God. Notwithstanding…
From generation to generation, end to beginning and beginning to end man has looked to the heavens and found God’s handiwork. King David wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” (Ps. 19:1) In Psalms 97:6 it is written, “The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.” Apostle Paul in Romans 1:20 wrote, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” And today, most scientists would agree that the universe is ever expanding still! Into where? Nothingness!
Expanding still: Think of this! I can hear God laugh at man’s folly. How will men ever measure the heavens? O, some will tell you that some day; someone will measure it but they’re presuming that there is no end to this age of man. While men may quibble over creation; some reducing God’s good work to a matter of chance when they say that out of nothing came something, David also observed, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” (Ps. 14:1) The fool today continues to chase his folly in attempting to measure and explain what was, is and will be in a Godless context; where man glories in his accomplishment and wisdom. True wisdom tells us by the heavens that God is! Nonetheless….
They run ever behind; unable to measure that which continues to expand into nothingness out of which it all began in darkness. With a simple command it is written: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Gen. 1:1) Always ahead; always before us, God is there. And what does this tell us? Intellectually, we will always be behind, but in faith we walk with Him and He with us. By His Spirit we keep pace and must leave the godless to their folly… ever chasing what can not be found, measured or known by men apart from the falling of God’s grace upon them, and that in full measure.
