WHERE WE ARE

Previously we learned that the mountains shall drop sweet wine, referring to God’s working of revivals among men. No doubt, there is a consistency to be taught here that as no man comes to the Father unless he is the chosen and elect of God from all eternity, no revival shall come. 

SCRIPTURE

Amos 9: 13

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.”

Opening remark:

“God’s promises are not exhausted when they are fulfilled, for when once performed, they stand just as good as they did before, and we may await a second accomplishment of them.”

Pastor Spurgeon held out great hope for a revival in his day. Indeed, in this discourse, he observed:

“When a sermon has been preached in these modern times, if one sinner has been converted by it, we have rejoiced with a suspicious joy; for we have thought it something amazing. But where we have seen one converted, we may yet see hundreds; where the Word of God has been powerful to scores, it shall be blessed to thousands; and where hundreds in past years have seen it, nations shall be converted to Christ.”

THOUGHT GOING FORWARD

Was Pastor’s hope realized? Not as he described the outpouring of thousands. However, I look back at his time, and what was happening in England. The Lord’s Spirit was truly poured out on many… many more than I could imagine! O, how I would love to see such an outpouring today in America! I hear the Lord’s Spirit is being poured out in other nations – reports from nations where the Gospel is kept hidden, but how hidden is it where the Holy Spirit works to reveal it and protects those who are His workers in the field? Yes, there are some whom the Lord God allows to be taken into custody and punished, but He prepares even them! Am I so prepared? Are you?

Revival, hardly thinkable 
that men would turn to Christ in droves…
but where God’s Spirit works His will,
the dead in Christ shall rise.
