Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached the Personality of the Holy Ghost January 21, 1855, based on the Gospel of John 14:16-17. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” In his sermon, he gives his reasons why the Holy Ghost is not a mere spirit or emanation, but a person. Specifically, the Holy Ghost is the third person in the blessed Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

MY THOUGHT: While I thought that I always thought that the Holy Ghost was a person – not a mere emanation or spirit – I understand better today the person of the Holy Ghost and his role in the eternal Godhead because of this discourse.
