Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached The Eternal Name on May 27, 1855, at the New Park Street Chapel. Based on Psalm 72:17, “His name shall endure for ever,” Whose name? Jesus. The name of Jesus will endure forever, and as Pastor Spurgeon points out, there is no other name under heaven that a man must call upon to be saved. Moreover, apart from the name of Jesus, whose name has lasted the ages?

MY THOUGHT: Was the name Jesus even mentioned in the Psalms? No, but the Messiah was known… spoken of… countless prophecies defined him, not merely his name. I am he, Jesus said. The combination of those three words, ‘I am he.’ identifies both his deity (I am) and humanity (he.)
