Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached this sermon on April 1, 1855. Based on Genesis 49:23-24, “The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him; but his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the Shepherd, the stone of Israel).” should we be astonished when we suffer the arrows of our detractors? No, but when it happens, what shall we do?

MY THOUGHT: Few are like Joseph. I am not, but by God’s grace, I am learning how to wear the whole armor. In the past, I have been a poor specimen when it came to personal attacks, insinuations… gossip. Indeed, I have had co-workers, neighbors, family members who had quivers full of those arrows. Of course, some face physical challenges, which I haven’t; such as physical abuse, illness. Yes, I am not Joseph, but I am learning. The first thing I learned? To shower with my whole armor on. It doesn’t rust.
