Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached The Comforter during the Sunday evening service after he preached The Personality of the Holy Ghost that morning, January 21, 1855, at the New Park Street Chapel. Based again on the Gospel of John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” In this sermon, Pastor Spurgeon concludes his series on the Holy Ghost by talking about his specific roles as our ‘comforter,’ ‘intercessor,’ and ‘advocate.’ A truly interesting insight is given us – simple, yes, but profound in its simplicity.
MY THOUGHT: Envisaging the Holy Ghost as a Person – specifically, the third Person in the Godhead, or Trinity, brings me far greater comfort and assurance knowing that the Holy Ghost is a person and not a mere emanation. He is God Himself, fulfilling the will of the Father by bringing us His love, power and strength.
