Teachings – Thou that Dwellest in the Gardens

THOU THAT DWELLEST IN THE GARDENS

UNFOLDING TWENTY-SEVEN

WHERE WE ARE

This is the final discourse in the ‘Garden’ series of unfolding’s. We previously looked at Song of Songs 8: 13 – Unfolding Twenty-Five. Pastor now returns to it. In the previous discourse, he addressed our communion with those ‘in the garden.’ Keep in mind the church is universal; not just the local church that we attend. There is so much we can learn from one and another through our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Spirit’s illumining of God’s Word.

SCRIPTURE

Song of Songs 8: 13

“Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.”

THOU THAT DWELLEST IN THE GARDENS
UNFOLDING TWENTY-SEVEN

“The Song is almost ended: the bride and Bridegroom have come to their last stanzas, and they are about to part for awhile. They utter their adieux, and the Bridegroom says to His beloved, ‘Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause Me to hear it.”

What an exhortation! What an admonition! Those who are together in the garden as companions – let our Lord hear your voice. Cause Him to hear it!

“Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”

“It is expedient that we should be here, even as it is expedient that He should not be here.”

“He said to His Father, ‘I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”

Is God able to do so? Why are you here in His garden? Is it not an enjoyment to you?

“Your portion is with the Lord’s saints, yes, with Himself; and what can be a better portion?”

“Just as Adam was put into the Garden of Eden for his own happiness, so are you put into the garden of the church for your comfort.”

Pastor concludes this discourse by saying:

“The Lord’s joy is in His people, and you are made to have a joy in them also; the excellent of the earth, in whom is all your delight, are made to be the comrades of your sojourning.”

THOUGHT GOING FORWARD

I wonder how many Christian brothers and sisters live in the immediate area where I live, but I don’t know them because they don’t attend my church? Do I meet them in any form of ecumenical fellowship? How many brothers or sisters do I know who worship outside of my denomination? How do I relate to them? Am I uneasy being around those who do not share my doctrines? Do I believe Father made many mansions in heaven to keep us separated? (Tongue-in-cheek, yes, but still, a thought to consider.)

IN TRIBUTE TO SPURGEON’S LOVE OF SHORT RYHMES

We say Christ alone,
but what does that mean?
Does that mean – you and Him,
no one else is seen?
