THE BRIDEGROOM IN HIS GARDEN
UNFOLDING TWENTY-FOUR
WHERE WE ARE
We are His flowers in His garden. We pray for His presence in His person and His Spirit. If He was not here, we would surely die… our flowers would wither, the blossoms would fall to the ground. We would be as the fig tree that Jesus cursed. However, if we are His, He is come. He is here with us! If that is true, why do we ask for the north and south wind to blow? His presence is not predicated on our awareness… our feelings… then again, are we really in His garden? There are those who think they are, but sadly, there are surrounded by plastic flowers and fruit.
SCRIPTURE
Song of Songs 5: 1
“The Beloved
I have come to my garden, my sister, my spouse;
I have gathered my myrrh with my spice;
I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey;
I have drunk my wine with my milk.”
THE BRIDEGROOM IN HIS GARDEN
UNFOLDING TWENTY-FOUR
“No sooner does the spouse say, ‘Let My beloved come into His garden,’ than her Lord answers, ‘I am come into My garden.”
Moreover,
“When we perceive that the Bridegroom has come, we perceive also that He has done exactly what He was asked to do.”
What can we learn of our Lord in this verse?
- It is His garden,
- We are His sister, and
- We are His Bride.
How many times have we gone over – heard – this already? That we are His sister? Bride? What is fleeting here on earth once we know it and quickly put out of mind, in heaven we shall want to hear those sweet words forever: I am my beloved’s and my beloved’s is mine.
- He gathers what He enjoys – myrrh with spice,
- He eats the honeycomb, with its impediments, with the pure honey, and
- He drinks the simple, life giving – milk from God’s creatures; and what is more complex, of the vine and must be trodden – wine.
And are we not invited to share communion with Him? Indeed.
THOUGHT GOING FORWARD
We have spent a lot of time in the garden. We should. If we are in Christ Jesus, we dwell within Him, and will forever. Our present venue, mystical, later reality. We are His flowers… lovely in His sight. His Father’s hand encompasses us. The spring is shut up, the fountain is sealed – meaning we are protected from the outside while we have the living water promised to the sinner of Sychar. We are not dependent on the world for sustenance. We depend on Christ alone. From Him, we draw our lives and breath. In Him, we bear spices and fruit in our works, which rise up unto the Lord God as a sweet savor and fragrance.
IN TRIBUTE TO SPURGEON’S LOVE OF SHORT RYHMES
Oh, hallelujah! Rejoice!
for salvation is not in our hands!
If so, I would’ve lost it long ago,
T’is the gift of a Father with plans.
