LITTLE PLANTS IN THE GARDEN
UNFOLDING FIFTY
SCRIPTURE
Ephesians 1:4
“… just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”
WHERE WE ARE
The church is a garden, and if we are in Christ, then we are the plants of the King’s Garden. Why God followed Adam’s sin and expulsion from the Garden of Eden, we do not know. It is a wonder that God did this, let alone caused his church to flourish and chose me to be transplanted within the protections of His garden. Thank God that He did! Praise Him!
LITTLE PLANTS IN THE GARDEN
UNFOLDING FIFTY
In Christ’s garden, we have duties. Pastor starts off declaring that –
“One of the duties of a Christian is joy.”
The second duty?
“Valuing the Lord’s presence and praying for it.”
Then, again, he goes on –
“Supposing Him to be the gardener,” there is another duty, and that is, – let each one yield entirely to Him.”
Moreover, he admonishes us –
“Let this be a stimulus to your fruit-bearing, that Jesus is the gardener.”
Then he continues,
“I have found in this supposition a relief from crushing responsibility. One has a work given him of God to do, and if he does it rightly he cannot do it carelessly.”
Still,
“If Jesus be the Master and Lord in all things it is not mine to keep all the church in order.”
“Supposing Him to be the gardener… “
-
the church enjoys a better oversight than mine, and
-
all must go well in the long-run.
Thus, he concludes –
“Supposing Him to be the gardener,’ lifts the ponderous responsibility of it from me, and my work becomes pleasant and delightful.”
THOUGHT GOING FORWARD
Supposing Him to be the gardener. Looking to him completely in all things. As the Father in heaven chose and planted me in His Son’s garden, did I take root in the rich soil of His divine grace? As created, a plant has its own peculiar root, stem, leafage and flower or fruit. As my gardener, do I look to Jesus to quench my thirst in His living water? Is His Word my meat… my daily manna? There are many applications to be made and considered of the analogies and metaphors that we have been introduced to in this series. Let us prayerfully consider and apply all that the Holy Spirit reveals to us.
IN TRIBUTE TO SPURGEON’S LOVE OF SHORT RYHMES
Does it matter what type of flower I am,
planted in Christ’s heavenly garden?
As long as I’m there with my root sunk deep,
the blossom I’ll show will bloom in His pardon.
