Teachings – Seen with Christ in the Garden

SEEN WITH CHRIST IN THE GARDEN

UNFOLDING FORTY-TWO

WHERE WE ARE

We just left the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus suffered spirit, soul, and body. Interestingly, Pastor did not mention the heart or mind of Christ. Why? Because those physical membranes (heart, ventricles) and mind (brain, cerebrum) are parts of the body. As for the emotional, cognitive aspects of the heart and mind, those are the visceral and neural parts of the soul, which we discussed as being the pure light of Christ brought under darkness. However, if you can imagine Adam, before the fall, and the second Adam, Jesus, both had souls of pure light. The fulness of that light would have been known by heart and mind.

SCRIPTURE

John 18:17

“Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto  Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.”

SEEN WITH CHRIST IN THE GARDEN
UNFOLDING FORTY-TWO

Pastor opens –

“The question is, ‘Did not I see thee in the garden with him?'”

And on to application –

“There are some of the Lord’s people who would like to go to heaven without being seen with the Lord Jesus in the streets by daylight.”

Still,

“Without desiring to be known, you that have been with Christ have been found out; you have been seen in the garden with your Lord, ‘by those associated in family life with you.'”

Oh, and…

“You have been found out by ‘certain curious people who are always prying about.'”

And those affected by us directly will know –

“The gentleman whose ear had been cut off knew Peter.”

Indeed,

“As we have been in the garden with Jesus, and we have been seen there, we are now the subjects of very high expectations; that is to say, people expect a great deal from those who are known to be associated with Jesus.”

Yes, indeed, what will you say when asked,

“Did not I see thee in the garden with Him?”

 THOUGHT GOING FORWARD

In his discourse, Pastor presents a number of scenarios where Christians, like Peter, found themselves disavowing Christ in their actions. I know there have been times in my life when I was caught off-guard, not proactively wanting to be seen with my Lord, that I have turned aside. God forgive me!

IN TRIBUTE TO SPURGEON’S LOVE OF SHORT RYHMES

To say that I know Him, when it brings applause,
is disingenuous at best,
when I’m stopped in the street and asked by a stranger,
‘Aren’t you that man? And hurriedly push past.
