Song of Solomon, Chapter 4, Verse 6

A New Day Breathes

Song of Solomon 4:6

“Until the day breathes
and the shadows flee,
I will go away to the mountain of myrrh
and the hill of frankincense.”

Interpretive Poem

Oh, the bitter and sweet!
Thus, I will visit a mountain of myrrh,
And for the sweet, a hill!
There I shall go until a new day breathes, and shadows flee!

The age will come I shall see the former, more than the latter…
Mourning shall reign over Me and you as a shadow for a time –
Bridegroom and Bride, as if hidden in a cave,
But gloriously the day will break and we will breathe…
Our breasts will swell… no more remembering…
No more will I need mediate from a distance.
