The Bride of Christ Twice Fair
Song of Solomon 4:1
“Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.”
Interpretive Poem
His words came – behold, twice fair,
But more than a bride to be –
Angelic, yes, but in Christ’s view –
T’was the grace of God for all to see,
The sacrifices given – old and past…
One heaped upon our sin and slain,
The other – scape goat – sent away,
Christ’s redemption, proclaimed.
Her eyes – like those of a morning dove
Looked down to search…
To return to her Bridegroom in heaven,
With the olive’s twig where she perched on earth.
‘Christ the balm of Gilead…’ she cried!
‘His loveliness, my hair divine!
His innocence and purity, my eyes!
I am his bride, and he is mine.
