In our tier (2022) Heritage Series for New Years our scripture is taken from 2 Peter Chapter 3, Verse 8: ‘But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.’

I found this sermon particularly fascinating. To be honest, what thrilled me is that Spurgeon’s sermon basically affirmed what I held so dear as God’s view of time. The whole idea of God’s ability to sovereignly handle every world event, know the very number of hairs on my head and every hair on every head in the world; then to hear and answer every prayer? Come on! Regardless whether you believed that God was omniscient, and omnipresent, if God’s actions were restricted to time? Impossible. Of course, if time is not a factor; then that’s another matter. If God has the luxury of infinity to oversee every world event, count every hair on every head, hear and answer every prayer… well, no problema. Now, how does that effect us in the beginning of a New Year? If you serve the Lord, and wait upon him? Let our New Year resolution be to learn patience.
