My Prayer for the Times

I don’t know about you, but with all the horrors we’re seeing throughout the world, I find myself at times fearful; other times in awe. I’m fearful when I think of what is happening in the Mideast and the Ukraine, and how such events may spread to affect my children and grandchildren. However, as a Christian man, and trusting in God’s sovereignty, I’m in awe. It’s absolutely fascinating that we could be witnessing here on earth the turning of the heavenly pages found in the Book of Revelation.

Yes, Lord Jesus, come quickly.

I don’t ask for myself. I have been graced to live in peace. Yet, for my dear brothers and sisters in Christ who are scheduled this day to be martyred for His Namesake, and who by sunset, shall be gathered up to Him in heaven? For them, I pray that the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, is theirs these final hours. Oh, and God help us, we, who live in distant lands in relative peace from these dear ones; Father may we stay awake this time and pray as Jesus had bid His disciples to do that last night of His life. And what shall we pray?

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Father, I pray that we understand that this prayer; the prayer Jesus taught us, is the cornerstone petition of our faith and trust as your triumphant body. It is our hope; wherein we are told that faith is the substance of what is hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. And what is it that is unseen? It is that Your will is done Today; now, on earth as it is in heaven! Lord, You know the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Thus, I’m asking You that though we’ve long slumbered as a people, please awaken us and strengthen us. Awaken us to see the unseen in all that surrounds us in these days of danger, darkness and ever-increasing evil. Help our unbelief. Let our faith be such that we do not need to have our eyes spiritually opened; as Elisha’s servant, to see your heavenly host that is encamped around us. Provide us Your grace to know with heavenly confidence, as King David, that:

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.

In this, we know our soul is preserved, and we will live forever with You as your adopted sons and daughters. Lastly, grant those who are called home this day the peace and joy in knowing that they fell asleep in Your hand; their head upon the Rock, and hand lifted up, You carried them home. Thank you Lord for hearing our prayer. In Jesus name, Amen.
