My Ashford Christmas Wish for You

My Ashford Christmas Wish for You

A crackling fire,
burning embers, sparks aflame.
With loved ones gathered all around,
the heart is warmed,
sweet fellowship and love…
attained.

Oh, the savor of the holidays,
with Mistletoe, a kiss.
The smell of wafting candles lit,
of pumpkin spice aloft,
it isn’t hard to sit and smile,
no time to feel cross.
The table’s spread,
fresh pies and cheese.
Another cup of cider?
Yes, please.

The presents brightly colored,
wrapped
all stacked beneath the tree,
where the young will peek
to find their names,
the adults laugh…with glee.
Remembering too their days of youth,
of innocence and awe.
It’s all okay,
it’s good, they say.
It’s a jubilee year,
but if you will…
could you play ‘Auld Lang Syne’
and in a key I can sing?

And yes, before we eat may we…
pray?
That’s why we’re here, you know –
to celebrate a child;
to give thanks for an only, begotten Son.
The One who brings us hope
for those not here…
you know –
that empty chair?
Our moment’s sadness?
Their table is set, just not here
but their savor’s sure.
This day, if God should grant,
they reign with Him,
no, not here,
but you know where.

So now, enjoy!
Let’s give a toast!
To all our loved ones near and far.
This season is a gift to us,
to them,
and just for this day,
let us give thanks,
and if a tear should drop?
It’s okay.
Jesus wept too.
