Millpond Ink Musing – Look Up

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36

The fact that I am comforted at all is a gift of God; a Father’s love for an adopted child; ever streaming to me from His very throne. However, Jesus is my comfort; the gift divinely and graciously given; my hope and redemption, and the Holy Spirit, Who now inhabits this earthly tent, is my comforter, guide, teacher and healer. Thus, I find in the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—the sum of all joy, which, if real experientially and doctrinally upheld, will surpass in love and peace what can ever be known naturally and eternally.

This is true of all God’s gifts—those things we are told to ask for in the Scriptures; which we know, when asked in faith, are in accordance with God’s will—truly remarkable, eternally memorable gifts; such as wisdom, knowledge, faith, patience, victory over sin, and of course, the greatest of these: love for others. Such largesse transcends all this world offers from without. Therefore, raise up your eyes; set your affections on Christ alone! If we only look here for our daily sustenance, we broker a paupers trade with the Devil; having exchanged light for darkness, heaven for hell, mansion for outhouse, an eternity’s table for a single morsel; yes even a crumb for Christ.

Yes, look up.
