“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you are disqualified.”
2 Cor. 13:1
Many will one day stand disqualified before God. They will find themselves standing before a righteous and holy God believing they were saved, and then find out; much too late, that Christ did not know them.
For those professing Christ today, the Apostle Paul challenges us; even as he did the Corinthians in the 1st century, to examine; test ourselves. Today is our day to ask: Do I know that Jesus Christ is in me? How do I know? In heaven, the question isn’t relevant. There, it will be Christ’s answer to His knowledge of us; not vice versa. Does He know us?
One critical test is whether our lives and behavior is marked by heartfelt and searching obedience. Have we any sins that we’ve continued in and presently have had no intention to abandon since we first came to Christ? Do we just follow lockstep what we see everyone else do? The herd mentality is not the same as Christ’s flock. If so, we’re disqualified; that is, unless we repent.
I know when I was younger I clung to certain ‘bosom’ sins, and I kept thinking I’d repent of those ‘later.’ Don’t be misled. God promises many wonderful and gracious things but never later. Examine yourself. Today.
