Now, you say, that’s a new one. No, not really. It’s just a title I coined and applied to the Christian whose holiness is ‘honos,’ honor sometimes, as the formalist. However, the Internalist only honors the things of God when alarmed by things internal; their conscience and they suffer from pangs of guilt. Then, and only then, will they cry out for forgiveness and perform the expected duties: prayer, church attendance, Bible read…ing and so forth. Then, when the dogs of conscience stop barking and scratching at the door, so the Internalist will cease performance of his duties.
Why is this cycle forever repeated? Because they only seek quiet; and all that is accomplished is that the pack of dogs at the door grows even larger when they come back! If only the Internalist knew that the barking and scratching was a warning! If so, they would seek the Savior; not quiet, and therein put the dogs to rest.
