Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of the Effectual Call

An effectual and life changing conviction of sin is expressed in deep humiliation and sorrow. It is the experience of finding oneself at the foot of the cross and exclaiming as the centurion, ‘Truly He is the Son God,’ or catching His gaze across the courtyard, as the Apostle Peter, after denying Him.

An ineffectual and life denying conviction gives lip service as through a kiss; such as Judas; not to own Christ as your own but to show the masses that you merely recognized Him. Thus, Judas demonstrated that a walk with Him is not evidence of a life in Him.

Recognition is not friendship; let alone Lordship! An ineffectual conviction will always leave Him, as Judas did, at the table as the sinner’s heart pursues those things believed to offer a greater value but will eventually end in death.
