What do we really mean when we say that we believe the Bible? Let me put it this way: there are millions that don’t believe any of it. But are there millions that believe all of it? Every jot and tittle? And let our answer be made not by the mouth but by the heart: do we tremble at each word and utterance as it affects our behavior and actions?
No, I fear that most of us hope the Bible isn’t altogether true; that God won’t hold us accountable for even our deepest thoughts. In that regard, we place more trust in our hope that God will let some of our indiscretions slide, but in so thinking, we are the ones on a slippery slope.
