Shame is a curious benefactor. It gives us aid if it leads us to repentance and sorrow of our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ. Thus, as a pilot fish it leads us to Him where our sin and guilt is imputed to Him; bringing us joy and peace.
However, if we do not repent, it is the pilot fish that will lead us and our sin to final judgment; bringing us wrath. It is then an aid to God in meting out His justice, and we will accept it without complaint. Our conscience and shame will stand as a faithful witness to God and will accompany us into hell, where the worm never dies.
Yes, shame is a curious benefactor but to whom?
