Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Matters Internal and External

It is the inward state of a man and his love and desire for God that is the truest testimony of a sincere Christian. However, what is true inwardly is unseen by men, and therefore, is not readily on display as is true of the external demonstrations that can bring men praise and adoration. Thus, a hypocrite may put on a superior show of religious practice and spirituality while having none of Christ. Conversely, the …man who appears to contribute the least within the body of Christ may have all of Christ as a matter of his unseen but real passion and delight of God.

That is not to say a sincere Christian does not have any works. As James wrote, faith without works is dead. No, it simply means that those external works; which may be seen by men, emanate from an inner direction and power that is derived by one’s delight in God, and God’s delight in answering His son or daughter. Such is found in the effectiveness of a righteous man’s fervent prayer or by his willingness to aide another without fanfare. Indeed, it is very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff that may grow around us, but reading this and examining our own actions, hopefully we’ll know what seed is planted in us.

Delight in the Lord always, and may the light that shines inwardly be seen externally.
