Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Loving God

To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, you may think that it involves two parts man, two parts God. Some may think that men contribute their hearts and minds to the equation, but that is not true.

Loving God from our heart and mind is a derivative of loving God first from our soul and with strength. The soul is definitely His to do with as He pleases because it reflects His created but our now sin-tar…nished image. Any quickening to enliven and to cleanse it to restore His glory in us can only come by His Holy Spirit. This, in turn, enlightens our heart and mind and His Spirit works in us to will and to do His good pleasure. Without His inward working and empowerment, we can’t love God in the manner He proscribed.

Hence, all that we are is given by Him, belongs to Him and it is only by His grace that we find all our faculties; e.g., mind, heart, soul and strength brought together in loving Him. Without His quickening, we are as dead men, and the only ‘will’ we have as dead men uses an ironic play on words related to probate. In this case, we are reprobate, and therein we have nothing to offer Him from that estate.
