Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Light

Can we truly say that we believe the Gospel and are saved when we don’t live according to God’s Word? We are called to be righteous, holy – set apart, a peculiar people. Perhaps the question we need to ask ourselves is ‘what light did we sit under when we first heard the Gospel?’ Where are we sitting today? Are we sitting under the Lamp of God or are we sitting under a natural light – the dim light of our fallen nature? If under the natural light, it’s not surprising that we are so easily seduced… overcome. Under a natural light, dusk comes and men return to their slumber as they seek another blanket to warm themselves. In fact, there are those in churches who have sought other blankets to comfort and warm themselves as they moved out from under the Lamp of God. As generations have passed, many denominations and congregations have fallen to the wayside… overcome by thieves, wounded. Jesus, oh please, remind me to pray for them! Minister to them! Give me the Samaritan’s heart, not the Pharisee’s. Indeed, Jesus, grant that I continue always to read under the Lamp of God. For the true Gospel Light is lit by God’s own hand and fueled by His Spirit! When I’m taught under Your Light, Your teachings affect my heart, mind, soul and will so that I am empowered by Your Spirit to apply what You taught me. Yes, Your light grows faint at times when I falter; lapse into sin, but then You remind me to confess my sin and Your Spirit illumines 1 John 1:9, ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.’ Let us all confess our sins this day, and ask to sit under the Lamp of God.
