Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Honoring God

Do we seek God’s honor first and foremost of all else? If so, how can we dismiss any sin in our own lives so easily? How do we not groan and speak out when we hear foul talk, see others coveting another’s possessions, broker lies to escape prosecution, or witness sexual innuendos from brothers and sisters who profess Christ as we do? Or is it that we, in fact, proclaim Christ as they?

Is our gratitude so low? Is the pearl of great price not so precious that we wouldn’t plumb the depths of the ocean to find it? Why not our hearts? Do we think that we’ll squeeze in between others; such as we are, as they enter the narrow gate? Or, will we find out too late that we were among the many who in foolishness or ignorance attempted to widen a gate, which width was set by God; even as the span of the cross? It’s width was not intended to extend infinitely as to embrace all men as Savior; only those who came within its span and before.

To ask God to forgive all our sins means all; not only those that wound our conscience, but those we know by His Word wounded Him and brought a loving Father’s wrath upon His Son. Believe me, if we seek to honor Him above all, His Spirit will challenge us; leading us to repent of all sins brought to our attention and equip us to lovingly address our brothers and sisters.
