Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Of Grace and Gifts

The man who possesses the least amount of grace may be a Christian, while the man who possesses the greatest gifts may never be known by God. How is this so? The grace of God is electing, drawing, consummating, personal, eternal and incorruptible. While gifts are commonly apportioned to saint and sinner alike and are to be coveted as good, in men gifts are corruptible, impersonal to God, and thus, should not be counted upon as ev…idence of salvation.

Grace is of the purest gold; sovereignly given and endowed first in Christ and imputed to men. Gifts have the sparkle and shine of gold; are sovereignly distributed, yes, but do not hold their luster when directly endowed to men without benefit of Christ’s sanctification.

Finally, while most men seek gifts so they can advance themselves among men, the Christian seeks grace to advance himself in service to his Lord and Savior and it is by God’s grace that humble men are elevated among his peers.
