It is one thing to say there is wheat and chaff grown up in the field. Our Lord said that and what will be done. (Matthew 3:12) It’s another to acknowledge that chaff exists, and if allowed to, it will grow within a Christian’s own heart. If not, why else does the Gardner pull what was planted there from the beginning or prune what was grafted in by errant doctrine and false teachers?
True sanctification and the teaching of the Holy Spirit makes us wary of both: the sins of our birth and natural tendencies, and the sins of our rebirth that can come through:
- A lack of discipleship;
- Our own arrogance and pride, and
- Listening, without discernment and testing, to a multitude of false teachers; letting them either define or lead you to believe their faith will meet the desires of your heart.
Unlike the chaff of the field, we were told to wait. It will be pulled up and burnt after judgment. As for our hearts? Pray, listen and do as the Gardner instructs.
