Jeremiah Burroughs wrote, “The Lord is as sensible of your condition as you are sensible of your burden.” What I find fascinating with this statement is that he did not say burden in both places. Why? We may not see our condition as He sees it, and how it led to our burden. Therein we have significant insight. Our burden may only be a symptom of our true condition. Therefore, pray that God reveals your condition. He will provide an appropriate treatment. While repentance is generally called for, it is what we are called upon to repent that holds the key to the removal of the burden. Since we know the specifics of our burdens, shouldn’t we know the same of our condition and what led us there? Carte blanch cries of forgiveness at best only leads to general malaise; not true peace.
