Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Let’s Stop Redrawing Our Lines

Okay, here’s a little test in how a sinner may read the Bible for justification versus the true believer in coming to their position on the sanctity of life.

Judges 13:5. “For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb.”

Consider this verse in light of abortion. The sinner’s eyes may be drawn to the word ‘womb,’ thus, they’d maintain Samson’s life as a Nazarite did not start before his physical birth (out of or from the womb).

However, the true believer’s eyes would be drawn to ‘conceive’ and thus, they’d conclude Samson’s life began at his promised conception. However, if what is said of Jeremiah is true for Samson, you and me, then our conception and life began even before that! (Jeremiah 1:5)

Please notice how even true believers have allowed slippage in God’s creative timeline when they speak in terms of human conception. We have slipped to the second cause; man’s intercourse; and away from the first cause: God’s eternal design and purpose. Let’s stop redrawing the lines. If you’re going to stand with conception and take the ridicule and scorn, then let us rightfully walk conception back and go with the first cause:

God knew and formed us according to His divine purpose and call. From that point on, we trust Him to work all things for good in each and every life as it was conceived in accordance with the counsel of His will. If we only presented that as the definition to life we would be giving God all of His rightful glory, pointing others to Him as our Creator, and speaking of the wonderful purpose that all life has because of Him; thus, speaking to the sanctity of life.
