Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – Heartsick?

When I consider America as it is today, it is certainly not as it was; not fifty, one hundred or definitely 350 years ago. America was once a new and well tailored suit that everyone wore and were invited to wear. Of course, in coming to our land, newcomers had to be first fitted to the pattern laid out by our original tailors and they gladly did so. Why? The suit we offered was of highest quality and of the most wearable, expandable fabric; offering comfort and warmth to generations. It was most certainly worthy to die for and in. Millions did.

Today? What was in vogue yesterday is now viewed as old and tattered; not as a result of excessive wear because the fabric used was exceedingly durable; so much so, that it could have lasted forever if it were not for the moth of our sin and corruption. With time, we put away the Word of God; our true, sincere, faithful worship and display of Christian virtues. We use to display those virtues of keeping our word, charity to others and integrity so humbly and thankfully on our lapels; which given our apostasy many have now blotted out; even at the risk of their own names from the Book of Life. Fewer today live as they ought. If only those that said they wore the suit of God would have it laundered through confession and repentance!

Of course, not everyone in our nation necessarily wore, wears or was expected to wear the suit made of the fabric of the Bible and the Cross. However, don’t dismiss the notion that our Constitution and Bill of Rights wasn’t a derivative blend. It was. The separation of church and state is one matter for discussion and disagreement among men. However, the assertion that man can separate himself from God is another. That was discussed within the Godhead before the creation. We may think today that we can determine our own end but that’s the folly of the jester’s suit that many wear; where poking fun and mocking God may bring laughter, but one day, it will culminate in His judgment.

Why am I writing this? I’m heartsick… not so much for America putting away the derivative suit (our Constitution) as I am for the principal (the Bible). Freedom of speech allows the former, but it has no affect on the latter. God is no respecter of men, and the hardening and softening of men’s hearts has been historically and Biblically shown as God’s workings; not ours, and for those who have eyes to see, they see if they look, and ears to hear because they listen. They know, and with me, they’re heartsick too.
