I have learned that a dismissive look and a short and sweet ‘cute.’ is far more disappointing than a comment offered by one, such as my editor, who was honest enough to tell me that I didn’t stick it, referring to a poetic ending. Rather, their looks and short, sweet and disengenuous comments told me where to stick it.
