The striving of a man’s conscience against sin is not the same as the Holy Spirit’s striving against sin within a man. For the conscience can be easily tampered, if not entirely ruined.  The battle of the flesh against the Spirit and Spirit against the flesh is constant throughout the life of a true believer. That internal war continues to rage against all sin – most vexing to least – as the Holy Spirit plumbs the depths of our depravity and reveals it to us that we might confess it and find true forgiveness and peace.
