Romans 8:28
This morning I read a great example of this ‘working’ in Acts 10, where Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian band was visited by an angel. In verse 4, we are given wonderful insight into God’s timing first as it related to Cornelius. What did the angel say to him about why his appearance? “Thy prayers and thy alms have come up for memorial before God.” Wow, what a great lesson there: God’s time; not mine. This memorial and visit came years after Cornelius was shown to be a man of prayer and giver of alms. CLICK. So, Cornelius does what is instructed and sends his servants to Joppa to find Peter.
The following day, Peter is in Joppa, at Simon’s house by the sea, and he receives a vision of a vessel filled with unclean meats, and he is told to eat three times. He refused and is then told “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common,” and the vessel was removed. Three times huh? He thinks back to his denial of Jesus. CLICK. It must be God telling me something, and while he is meditating on what it could mean, the servants from Joppa arrive and tell Peter of the angelic visit and the next day they depart to visit Cornelius.
As the story continued, we learn that Jesus also died for the Gentiles, and it was Peter’s testimony of what happened with Cornelius and his family that convinced the others back in Jerusalem that the Gospel was also intended for them. As far as the continued and ever present unfolding of that story, there was a day that my memorial came up before God… in the fullness of His time for me. CLICK. Even as this is true for you; the blood of Christ was shed; the assurance of your salvation provided… prayers answered for family, friends… who knows but God what troubles our souls and darkens our paths.
May today your name come up before God in a memorial. May your today CLICK.
