One of the most frequent questions I hear asked is, “Why are there so many different denominations?” The simple answer is that there are so many different people and it seems that some folks who speak of the blood of Christ tend to coagulate in like blood types. I’m an ‘A negative’ by the way; which might explain why I tend to keep moving along the stream (although I …can get a little clingy at times and stuck on what can best be said are ‘capillary issues.’)What causes the periodic coagulation? If our pride of knowledge and doctrine were likened into bad cholesterol, I’d say we have a number of clogged arteries within the body of Christ. It was always our Lord’s intent that His love would keep us flowing and lively, and what He started He will bring to completion. We can be sure of that. However, that is not to say we don’t have cancerous platelets floating around (hypocrites, anti-Christ’s). Still, Christ knows His own. It’s hard for true believers to know who they are, but let me tell you it’s not a matter of blood type. Jesus was a universal donor for those His Father sent to Him. In that regard, whether your type is A, B, O, or AB (positive or negative) and we are in the body of Christ, maybe we should stop attacking each other on the ‘capillary issues’ and realize it is Christ’s heart that sends us on our way in our commission and our return to Him in communion for a discourse on what transpired during the journey. We would all fair a little better if we remembered that it is His precious and life-filled blood that courses through our veins, and His Spirit, like oxygen, which sends us out even again.
One other matter regarding the body of Christ: While Jesus said that in My Father’s house there are many mansions, that was not meant to say that there is a separate mansion for each denomination. As I think of heaven, that thought is repugnant. If it is to you, shouldn’t it be as repulsive to us today?
