Hey! You Wanna Know a Secret?

“Redeem Israel, O God
Out of all their troubles!” Ps. 25:22

Today, in Israel, the people face great trouble. This is not the first time that the Jews have faced trouble. Theirs has been a history fraught with wars, and horrors; displacements and death. Yet, God has preserved them; His covenant remains… His Word is true. Do not diminish the final appeal that King David made to God, “Redeem Israel, O God out of all their troubles,” by limiting the reference to ‘all’ as only those troubles that Israel faced during David’s time. Those troubles endure to this day! Consider what David wrote in verse 19: “Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred.” No, such a limitation would diminish God Himself and the power of an effectual prayer. God inhabits eternity and that is where our prayers are presented and answered. As the covenants of God are eternal, so are our prayers and supplications. God is true. His compassions fail not; though He will have compassion on whom He would have compassion.

Am I suggesting that because David prayed and his prayer remains effectual Today that we shouldn’t? God forbid! Prayer, either for others and for ourselves when we are accountable to God for others; as King David  (family, neighborhood, community, city, state, nation and world), is very much needed today. It is a good and eternal work; commanded of us. In Ps. 25, which is known as a plea for deliverance and forgiveness, David addressed his own sin and sought forgiveness; even going back and asking God not to remember the sins of his youth. He then proceeds to extol the majesty of God and recounts the doctrine of the godly: “The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way.”  How can we pray and not recount God’s goodness and mercy; and then not remember the way that He led and instructed us? Yet, how quickly we forget until we stand alone in a time of trouble. Nonetheless…

God is merciful and longsuffering, and by confessing our sins, we can have assurance restored, although we may have to wait all the day (v. 5). Once restored, however, we can have that quiet confidence and certainty. How is that? “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him.” Those who do not fear Him, they do not understand. It is our secret; locked within our hearts and minds. And it is with that thought I pray for Israel today; knowing that God will redeem them from their troubles; even those among the elect within the Arab nations and peoples. With that, I praise God for He is mighty and mighty to save!
