“But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Cor. 2:16
I have said this before, but for those of us who are abiding in Christ, we recognize that we were once dead. We were dead men walking in the flesh. Yes, we had our own minds then; however darkened and dead in thought we actually were with regard to the things of God, and of our Lord Jesus Christ. However, I have also used the analogy that we became as headless chickens to our flesh after He quickened us by the Spirit and brought us to the throne of grace. We were Today made alive and Christ became our head! Today, we became a new creature! Hallelujah? Of course, all of what I’ve written here, except for the headless chicken parts (and who remembers that parts are parts?), I can support directly from the Scriptures. If you’re curious, please ask. Nonetheless….
If you are in Christ, and please permit me to continue my seemingly mindless analogy: I must tell you that no matter how you may fall back into sin, you will not find your old head, which was decapitated at the cross. Although we may frantically search and go back to the old coop where everyone seems to be wearing their dead heads, cluck their expletives while shaking their tail feathers, it’s not the same for us… it shouldn’t the same. You and I both know it. Come on, wake up. Hear the rooster! Hens don’t crow and we don’t follow the same old pecking order… While others may think our faith is vain… chicken feed. In fact, when we try to say something about what has happened because of Jesus in our lives, what is it they say? “Have you lost your mind?” Can you believe that? And what do we want to crow back: “Yes, and Yes! Yes! Yes! I can and know it’s true!” O, and praise God we can’t go back. Did you not read the verse, “And neither shall any man be plucked from His hand?” Really… plucked? Oh my…
At the same time, there is no more miserable and wretched creature in the barnyard than the Christian who does not daily seek their Lord at sunrise, and who put on their helmet of salvation to ensure the capture and proper placement of the mind of Christ for application to our hearts and souls. So, stop running around as a headless chicken; all the while searching for what will not be returned to you if you are truly His. Praise God if it stands that you’ll be afflicted, tormented… all for the purpose of your eternal rescue. It is for our good. However, I also know, how difficult it is to stay for the moment in the old barnyard and suffer for the cause of Christ. We’re left here in the world for His purpose, but He promised to strengthen us. All I can say is that we remain for a time here for His reason, and for that, we need only ask for His understanding. And to that end, I pray that through His Spirit, you will find His grace and His praise applied to your strut. Why? Well, maybe because the others in the yard, as with Moses staff, will look up and see your true Head.
So. Are you chicken or what? Don’t be left mindless; be encouraged for He is our wisdom and strength.
