And As Thy Days….

“…and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.” Deu. 33:25

Is this a reason to rejoice or not? Do you not see the glorious parallel: that as your day goes, so shall your strength be in Him to overcome? Are we not more than conquerors? I know at times things happen that seem beyond our ability to handle, but didn’t you read in God’s word that God knows your limit… how much you can take? Can’t you hear His whisper, ‘My grace is sufficient?’ Oh, I know what I am saying is better said than done, but Whose will is it that we ask to be done? I believe it is His. So, the question is, ‘Is what is happening in your life His will for you at the present? It must be if God is sovereign. Based on what I’ve read, and I know this must be simplistic, but there is not one random atom in the universe. Christ is all and in all. Of course, no one knows our hearts like God. I can’t say whether what you are going through came about because you played a very dangerous game called Sin and Consequence, or as Job, you are sitting in sack cloth and ashes under a severe test. What I can say is that ‘…as thy days, so shall thy strength be.’ I can say that because that’s God’s word; His promise; His covenant made to us, and unlike us, He keeps His word.

Okay, so you’re still down right now. You’re hurting, but then again, He hurt. You’re depressed, repressed, and might I suggest, a little distressed… yet…wasn’t it said of Him that He too was a man of many sorrows? You face a house payment, children to feed, numerous bills; yes, but Jesus had no place to rest His head. Okay, I wish it wasn’t so, but maybe your body hurts; you’re in agonizing pain. Ah, you’ve probably figured out where I am headed: Jesus too hurt… He took our stripes; His side pierced, hands and feet nailed to a cross. Yes, He died; not for His sin, but for ours. To that I say, ‘Take heart, He rose again and we are in Him!’ Nonetheless, all that He did and experienced was to become our advocate; our strength of our days. The question is, do we call upon Him? Why complain of a headache when aspirin is available but we don’t go to the cabinet? Crazy.

God is perfect and in His sovereign perfections He provided us in His Son what He knows that we need each day. Unfortunately, days come that we don’t need Him and we find our affections drawn to the lesser lights of this world. It is hard to distinguish the light of God at noonday when the competing light of a full day sun gives us earthly warmth and satisfaction. Ah, but when the sun goes down; the night grows so very dark; a howling wind blows and the air around our heart is frosty cold, that is when we cry out to Him and wonder… Are You there? Such are the days of our affliction and suffering; brought about by either our wandering under a noon day sun, or God allowing the night to fall on us for Him to see if we as His loving children, call out to Him. Still, He never left us. He is, as we are as parents when our child wanders off in a store… ever observing, although keeping just out of our child’s sight. Then, there comes that moment the child becomes aware of his aloneness; turns and looks around franticly, and cries, ‘Daddy? Mommy?’ We see the tears well up in our child’s eyes and can no longer bear not revealing ourselves. We enter the aisle. He sees and then runs to us. It is no different for us.

Take heart. He will give you your daily portion. It will not fall short of what is needed in order to tease or anger us; nor will He provide excess that we are dependent without Him even an hour. No, He will give just enough for the day; just like the manna that He gave to the children of Israel, and on Friday, He gave an extra portion for a day of rest.

God is a jealous God; there is none other. Stay by His side child and trust Him. He will provide.
